At the Jaffa Port, just south of metropolis Tel Aviv, a site rich with history and promising in newly renovated chic, TEDxTelAviv is privileged to hold the event at Nalaga’at Center and take part in its inspirational endeavor.

Founded in 2002, “Nalaga’at” (meaning “Do Touch”) is a non-profit organization aiming to advance the needs and aspirations of deaf, blind and deaf-blind individuals. Through the establishment of a professional theater company, of deaf-blind actors and, later, a cultural and entertainment center, this first of its kind ‘Cultural cum Social Start-up’ provides severely disabled individuals with the opportunity to achieve artistic expression and find employment, while creating awareness to the deaf-blind in Israeli society and promoting their full integration as equal citizens. Since its opening, more than 80,000 Israelis and foreigners have visited the “Nalaga’at” Center, which currently employs about 80 deaf, blind and deaf-blind individuals.

TEDxTelAviv participants will also get an opportunity to try out an extraordinary experience at the pitch-black BlackOut Restaurant where serving staff is blind and total darkness helps patrons’ attention focus on their senses of taste, touch, smell and hearing in lieu of sight.
